Reading Through the Bible
A Two-Year Bible Reading Plan
by Jerry Griffin
This two-year Bible reading plan has been designed with today's busy schedules in mind. The daily readings are shorter than most other plans, so if you fall behind it's easier to catch up without becoming discouraged and dropping out.
This reading plan also arranges the books of the Bible in chronological order according to the storyline. The poetic and prophetic books of the OT are inserted in the historical books at the point where they were likely written. The NT epistles are also inserted in the historical narrative of the book of Acts.
However, this plan, like any other, requires your commitment to make it work. You'll have the best success if you set aside a definite time (5 to 7 minutes) each day for Bible reading.
Remember that how you read is more important than how much you read. Picture yourself in the story, and concentrate on the overall meaning. Notice who's speaking and who the audience is, what the issue is and what the message meant to the original hearers, and when and where the action took place. Then ask yourself, "Why was this written? What does it teach me to believe, to become, or to do?" And above all, rely on the Holy Spirit to help you understand and apply the truth to your life.
"Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God" (Matthew 4:4). So, read and live!
