Annual Leadership Meetings
Annual winter leadership meetings took place in Denver, January 31- February 10. In addition to a collective gathering, various entities of the Conference met at different times, including
Of those entities, the board of directors met the longest and dealt with numerous items of business, including the annual evaluation of the Conference president and appointment of Ministries directors, district superintendents, and MTS board of regents. Harvey Fischer, who has chaired the board of regents since the inception of MTS, resigned. The board of directors accepted his resignation with much gratitude for his faithful service to the Church for so many years. Larry Marrs was appointed to the board of regents to complete this vacancy, and Mary Jean Knoll was assigned chair.
The board of directors also took numerous actions related to endowments, planned giving, and liability insurance for local churches. It restated its policy regarding undocumented residents holding office in local churches, as follows:
Moved to reaffirm the board’s long-standing policy that all persons who hold any office in the General Conference, District or Local Church are required to have legal residency status; this includes Pastors, Lay Pastors, Treasurers, Trustees, District Board Representative and Local Church Board Members.
The board appointed Jon Harvey, Jeff Endecott, and Jody McCoy as members of the Conference’s Nominating Committee to serve with Sylvia Corral, chair. It granted funds to assist with a financial audit at Spring Vale Academy, increased medical benefits for the Conference office staff, and approved annual budgets for its various ministries.
